Some 30 people gathered Tuesday, August 15 to walk around the Celery Pond. Participants were taken on a tour of city-owned property on the Black River and on the pond. The purpose of the walk was to garner support for an effort to preserve the Celery Pond for use as a public park.
0
Carol Niffenegger, a native of South Haven, coordianed the walk. The group, which has taken the name Celery Pond Advocates (CPA), agreed to endorse the Parks Commission's recommendation to keep the public lands in public hands for use as a community park.

South Haven sculptor Patrick McKearnan has been eliciting smiles and laughter from people who see this torso on top of his 1988 Pontiac Grand AM. The response from young and old has been great. Even police officers have warmed up to his art. This is the fourth sculpture that he has shown in his mobile gallery. He believes that art should be part of everyday experience, and that it should not be confined to galleries. McKearnan likes to show his art in unexpected placles -- like in Lake Michigan. Watch for more of his installations.

Delta 88, an Ann Arbor-based band will perform at the South Haven Center for the Arts Saturday, June 4 at 8 p.m. Critics have called their songs "rural haiku" which depict a slice of Americana -- the vanishing rural landscape --dusty back roads and railroad men.
