Dorothy Appleyard for Mayor of South Haven!
Knowledge. Passion. Balance. Commitment. Dignity.
These are the reasons why South Haven will elect Dorothy Appleyard as Mayor.
Dorothy Appleyard has attended every City Council and Planning Commission meeting for many years. She also regularly attends DDA meetings and she chairs the Parks Commission. She studies. She knows the issues. She has the courage to speak her mind. She is one smart, hard working lady.
Dorothy Appleyard has a balanced view about the growth of South Haven.
Deeply rooted in a lifetime of love for the history of town, Dorothy
believes strongly in protection of the city's natural beauty. This includes protection of our vistas from high rise buildings, yes, but not a reactionary anti-development agenda. She has a strong, wise agenda for balanced growth and thoughtful protection of the irreplaceable charm of South Haven.
Dorothy Appleyard has a serene respect for the voices of residents. She listens. She treats people kindly and encourages open minds, open information and open speech. She herself speaks softly and respectfully. Dorothy Appleyard feels strongly that reestablishing trust and open communication between residents and City Hall will be a hallmark of her administration. She will facilitate for consensus and progress. She can heal a divided community.
These are all qualities sorely missing in our current administration.
We are so fortunate that a strong, informed, respectful leader like Dorothy Appleyard has stepped forward to face the important issues
in South Haven.
It gives me great pride to cast my vote for Dorothy Appleyard for Mayor of South Haven.

I'm wondering what Dorothy's agenda is? Elaine wrote "She has a strong, wise agenda for balanced growth and thoughtful protection of the irreplaceable charm of South Haven." Maybe Dorothy would like to clarify this for me.

Steve, I am sure that Dorothy will do so as the campaign kicks off. (I am not sure if she tunes in here at The Watchdog.) But I, personally, have attended some pre-campaign meetings and I have heard her speak about the issues and where she stands on them. I trust that everyone will appreciate her point of view and like her personally very much.
Thanks for asking.

She has stated on this site before that she visits and I've seen posts by her. We know some of the views of the current Mayor by voting pattern, I just thought Dorothy might want to take this opportunity to shed some light on the campaign she will be running. Elaine, are you her spokesperson? Does anybody know when there might be another public "meet the candidates" forum? I do have questions I want to ask and get answered, I do want to be fully informed, I do want to know what the choices are.

Oh, you're right, Dorothy has posted here, sorry.
No, I certainly am not her spokeswoman. Dorothy's views are more moderate than mine and she's twice the lady I am, har har.
She missed last night's Planning Commission meeting because, according to the letter she wrote, she just had a baby Granddaughter born. Life comes first, thank heaven.
Anyway, I trust there will be candidate forums. Perhaps Julie Ludwig can speak to that, as it's been the Democratic Club that has brought them to us previously.
Julie?
Steve, maybe we can coax Dorothy into making some statements here. I will email her and ask.

ACK! That's the night that Planning Commission set for their Special Meeting on the PUD ordinance! Oh no! Let me see if it can be changed. Rats.

Elaine, I take it Dorothy never responded to your email?

Steve, Dorothy is a very sweet person. She has been hurt by comments left on this blog. I, as the creator of Watchdog, feel funny about deleting anything, (but foul language, spam, etc.) but Dorothy has been put off Watchdog because of this and won't comment here. It probably is not the appropriate venue for a candidate to speak anyway and I respect her feelings.

Thanks for the response.
