Happy Holidays from everyone at SHASS
There will be no grinches stealing Christmas at the Warren Senior Center this year. "The hall is decked with boughs of holly..fa la la la la la la la la.."
The staff planned festive activities and bedecked the Warren Senior Center in red and green holiday colors complete with a shimmery Christmas tree. Each table has a small Christmas tree centerpiece. If you can't make any of the activities, at least drop by and see the staff's creative handiwork.
The big annual event at the Warren Senior Center is the Holiday Potluck that will take place Friday, Dec. 10 at noon. Turkey, dressing and drinks will be provided and then everyone brings a dish to pass. If you want to attend, just call the SHASS office at 637-3607 and sign up. Be sure to state what dish you'll bring. Frank and Carol Lash will be providing a variety of polka music and Santa will be handing out door prizes.
On a cold, winter day some hot tea would taste good. You can enjoy a spot of tea at the Holiday English Tea that will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22. You don't have to sign up, just come to the Warren Senior Center. You may want a break from a day of shopping!
Speaking of shopping, there is now a gift shop at the Warren Senior Center. There are a variety of handmade and other items perfect for those holiday gifts - for very reasonable prices! Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The shop is located in the computer lab area. All proceeds go towards Senior Services.
If you're in the mood for a holiday movie, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15 the feature presentation at the Warren Senior Center will be "The Santa Clause." Come and enjoy a fun movie and crunch on popcorn. Escape the stress of holiday shopping for an hour or two.
On a Christmas note, there will be a Christmas Eve Service at 1 p.m. at the Warren Senior Center for anyone who wants to attend. The Rev. Jeffrey Dick will conduct the service that will include Christmas carols.
After the holidays, if you have the winter blahs, you may want to call the SHASS office (637-3607) and sign up for a Bridge Club that Mary is trying to start. Be sure to ask for Mary.
If you want some warm fun during Michigan's cold "gray and white" months, January, February and March, SHASS has a variety of trips planned: The Auto Show & Greek Town, Jan 21; Turkeyville, February 10; Tim Conway & Harvey Korman - Together Again, February 18; Bay Mills Casino, February 27-28; Myrtle Beach, March 5-12; Coral Princess Cruise (highlights Costa Rica, Panama Canal Cruise, Grand Caymand, Cayman Islands, Mexico and Belize) March 8-18; and on March 16 a Blue Chip Casino trip. For more information, or to sign up, call Mary at SHASS, 637-3607.
Many of you may not know but there are also senior activities planned at the Harbor View Apartments, 325 Indiana. These include an English Tea at 1 p.m. on Dec. 9; a Holiday Party at 6 p.m. on Dec. 16 and a Rubber Stamping class at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 22. For more information, call Mary at 637-3607.
A holiday reminder - the SHASS office will be closed Dec. 24, 27 and 31.
The SHASS staff wishes you and your loved ones a very joyful and safe holiday season.
The next time this writer checks in will be next year. It doesn't seem possible that next year is nearly upon us. As Judy Collins used to sing, "Who knows where the time goes? Who knows where the time goes?"
Happy New Year!
