Volunteer drivers needed

Recently SHASS was awarded funds from Region IV Area Agency on Aging, which include Ride-Easy, a partnership between SHASS, Van Buren Public Transit and the Department of Human Services. Any senior, age 60 or over, living in Van Buren County, who needs transportation for medical care, in or out of Van Buren County, may qualify for Ride-Easy.

People interested in voluntering to drive seniors to medical appointments through Ride-Easy should call Arles Odette, weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 269-637-3607 or toll free, 1-866-627-8904. Volunteer drivers will be reimbursed for mileage. Registering to drive involves providing a copy of a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, personal auto liability insurance and a driving record that complies with acceptable program standards as described in a volunteer check list given to the volunteer.

Seniors needing transportation for medical appointments through Ride-Easy should also call Arles at one of the above numbers. It's important that we have reliable drivers to help seniors get the medical care they need. It is part of our mission to promote independence through volunteers and community support.
